Improv for High Schoolers

Is your teen ready to explore their creative side, build confidence, and improve their communication skills? Our Youth Improv Course for ages 14-17 is the perfect opportunity! This eight-week program introduces teenagers to the fundamentals of improv in a fun and encouraging environment, while also equipping them with valuable skills that will benefit them in school, relationships, and everyday life. No prior improv or acting experience is necessary—just bring enthusiasm and a sense of adventure!

- Active Listening: Improv helps teens develop essential active listening skills that improve communication and relationships at school, at home, and beyond.
- Body Language: Learning to use body language effectively enhances teens' ability to express themselves clearly and confidently in various social situations.
- Communication Skills: Improv teaches teens to articulate their ideas and emotions in a clear, concise way—whether in front of a crowd or one-on-one.
- Collaboration & Team Building: Improv emphasizes teamwork and cooperation, helping teens learn to lead, support, and collaborate effectively with others to achieve a common goal.
Course Details:
- Duration: 8 weeks, with a class performance following the final session
- Age Group: This class is designed for students aged 14-17 years old
- Class Length: 1.5 hours per session

- Class Performance: 12/15/24, Time TBA. The class will showcase their newfound skills in an exciting final performance!

Meet the Instructor: Jim Heffernan
Our Youth Improv Course is led by Jim Heffernan, a multi-talented improviser and performer with a unique background that combines creativity with a knack for engaging audiences. After discovering his passion for improv in 2015, Jim has honed his craft through numerous performances and classes. He is a regular performer at The Bit Theater, known for his work with the short-form troupe Accidental Jackhammer and various long-form teams. Jim brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to his teaching, ensuring your teen will have a memorable and enriching experience.
